About the academy
A new academy, built by people who kept seeing the same gap
Chess coaching in India has never been easier to find. What is harder to find is coaching that continues to work beyond the first year. Many students learn openings and tactical patterns, win a few school events, and then plateau—because they were never taught how to think through positions they have never seen before.
At Lumina Chess Academy, we focus on building that deeper understanding. Our training develops calculation, decision-making, strategic thinking, and the ability to approach unfamiliar positions with confidence.
We are proud to be partnered with ICS (Indian Chess School) as our Educational Partner, with Praful Zaveri bringing valuable academic expertise and guidance to our training approach.
Our goal is simple: not just to help students play better chess today, but to teach them how to keep improving tomorrow.

That plateau is a teaching problem, not a talent problem
It happens when classes are built around content delivery, one topic per week, with no way of finding out what an individual student actually misunderstands. A child can sit through thirty lessons on the middlegame and still hang a piece on move twelve of every tournament game.

What we believe
Four things we teach by
Losing is data
We want students playing opponents who beat them, regularly. A child protected from losses learns nothing about their own weaknesses.
Board sense is trainable
Calculation and pattern recognition are skills with training methods, not gifts you either have or do not have.
